Infosistema virtualizes it's headquarter IT infrastructure

Infosistema has recently virtualized it’s headquarter IT infrastructure, achieving two major advantages: centralization of employee’s IT environment and energy saving. That is to say a less amount of computers (Client Desktop PC’s) is needed since employees work in a virtual IT environment and therefore it becomes easier and quicker to manage. On the other hand, using another kind of computers - thin clients - less energy is wasted. Each thin client consumes a much lower rate of energy comparing to a normal computer, that is, 5W instead of 200W each. This measure shows a great ecological awareness, meaning that Infosistema, while consuming much less energy, reduces the amount of CO2 released annually into the atmosphere by 18 tones. In this way, it would surely be an interesting measure to implement at a large scale.

This action was not only based on financial factors but also based on the immediate and long-term social and environmental consequences. Corporate social responsibility was definitely printed in the last step of this process, as Infosistema donated computers, together with other equipment, to two charitable organizations:

  • The Child´s House of Tires, which is the home of twelve children whose mothers are found in the Prison of Tires. This project came to life due to Champagnat Foundation work, supported by the Portuguese Government.

  • “Movimento ao Serviço da Vida” (meaning Life Service Movement) is a Portuguese non-profit and non-governmental organization which promotes human rights by helping populations in need. It was funded in 1991 and develops activities in Portugal and Brazil.
